Re: Volvo Penta 280 Lifting problem

Looks liem it will be a tough job getting in there. Space is very limited, i had a hard time just taking the pictures, but at least now i'm sure of what the problem is. I'll fight it during the weekend. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Volvo Penta 280 Lifting problem

You need to remove the drive from the boat. You will then need to remove the linkage, and dissassemble the lockdown mechanism to get the linkage out of the H fork. I find it necessary to drill out all the corrosion in the area the sleeve slides through. It needs to be cleaned and painted. It's not supposed to be a snug fit that takes lubrication. There shouldn't be any grease in it at all. Salt water tends to make it worse.

Re: Volvo Penta 280 Lifting problem

I have a question for those working on the lift problem. I think I have a bent shaft and need to get the whole assembly out. Will the lift assembly come up through the hole in the housing without taking the stainless end piece off the shaft? If I remember correctly, I took this out a few years ago as one piece without removing this piece. Any help?
