I am a first time user and pleased to be a part of these forums. It's great that these are made available to help us "do it yourself".

Hopefully this question will make sense:

I had my boat winterized, and when I picked it up the mechanic told me "don't forget to re-install the drain plug (in a baggie) that is taped to the steering wheel... it goes on the bottom of the exhaust manifold"

So a year later I get the boat out of storage and go to work. Well, I found two threaded holes on the bottom of the manifold, and the 1/4" brass plug fit nicely in the stern end of the manifold. I got concerned about the threaded hole in the middle of the manifold, so I called the people who winterized it and unfortunately for me they have gone out of business. I called other dealers in town and they had no idea, other than to drag the boat in and they would look at it.

I tried an 1/8" plug and it was too big... I tried a 1/16" plug and it was too small. My guess is it might be a bolt thread, but I don't have a bolt that will fit.

I dug around the internet trying to find out what this hole might be and today I found a drawing (parts breakdown) that shows a good pic of the manifold. It shows both holes, and it shows a 1/4" plug that belongs at the rear hole. It does not show anything that indicates a plug or bolt belongs in the center hole. Here is a link to the print I found:

Exhaust - category details

My question is can someone who may have worked on one of these give me a verification as to whether this middle hole is something that is not plugged and maybe it is used to mount an accessory?

Thanks in advance...

Post a picture or two so we can see the hole you are looking at.

How to Post Pictures - The Basics*/ 468676

Here is the best shot I could get. The hose is in front of the 1/4" plug and it is installed now. The no plug spot is my concern as to whether it should have a plug (which I can't find anything that fits) or is it an accessory mounting hole? The white line you see seems to be a mark of some sort and I have no clue where it came from or what it means if anything at all.

I appreciate any help...

Get a mirror and look at it. I would bet it's cast solid up inside the hole.

I did do that to see if there are threads, and there are. I also took a plastic Ty-wrap and stuck it in there to see if it would go around a bend. It went about 1/2" and either stopped or got stuck.

This parts breakdown I found shows no plug in the center hole and does show the 1/4" plug. (part #8)

I'd run water through it, but we are still getting some freezing weather at night.
