Hey guys so I recently took my new boat out for a test run and while out the water pump slipped off the pulley is there anything that is suppose to keep this in place? I can just go and pull off the water pump at anytime

The pump bolts to the front pulley, so the bolts are missing

If this isn't a brand new boat and only a new to you boat, then could be the prior owner did some work and forgot to install correctly

Can you post a pic or 2

I just rebuilt the pump So I just need to get the snapring for it?

The snap ring is missing which holds the bearing in place. That said, the bearing is pressed on the shaft.

To rebuild the pump the pulley on the motor has to come off. Your pulley is still on the motor. Look at this vid and it should explain how its done

I was looking at some diagrams and there is an arm that looks called a stay that goes over the front of the pump do I need that

Maybe, most do have the stay, it keeps the load off the hoses and reduces vibrations

My 4.3 is missing the stay as well, and no issues so far. The design looks like it's intended to prevent the raw water pump from rotating, but it's not going to prevent the issue you had. Seems like your pressed-on bearing failed and/or you're missing a retaining clip.

I personally would like to add the stay to my motor, but I find it ridiculous that a simple piece of bent metal would cost over $160.

Water pump Bearing 4.3GL

I went to go replace the bearing for my water pump. I pulled off the pulley and went to put the new bearing on and it just slides on there with ease. Do I have to buy a new pulley or do they make some sort of rebuild adapter for that?

The bearing doesn't just slide on, what happened to the housing and the internal snap ring that had to be removed to get the bearing out?

Combined your new post with this original thread.

Did you watch the video AllDodge linked in post #6?

Yes I watched the video but before I decided to install the bearing into the housing I wanted to see if it was actually going to fit snug. Figured putting the bearing in the housing wasn’t going to suddenly make the bearing snug?

Also it originally didn’t have a snap ring on it I had to buy an entire kit for it. I was just testing to see if the bearing would actually fit snug which it does not

I don't know of a rebuild for a bearing surface, probably going to need another pulley
