I just purchased a beatiful Four Winns 205 sports cruiser with what was advertised as a 5.0 gl but it now turns out it has had a 5.7 votec installed due to a previous engine failure.

It has a Holley 2 bore carb which i expect was just swapped over from the previous engine and for some reason there was water in the fuel tank for reasons still unexplained from the previous owner.
The water pump housing was worn so I had this re-machined to ori spec and a new impeller installed... since then it pumps water perfectly.
So it would start on the muffs and run for around 2 or three minutes before cutting out then again i would start it again and it would run 2-3 minutes and cut out... i did this over and over trying to diagnose a faulty alternator.
I must have had the engine run now for around 20 mins on the muffs in total and I have found a slight milky look to the oil... I stripped the carb and about 50% fuel and 50% water poured out.
My terrified question is this... Could water injected through the carb cause the engine oil to turn slighly milky?
I know that a cracked block or blown head gasket would cause this but it runs very well at idle and my hope is that once I recon the carb, drain and refill the fuel that there is a chance the engine is actually ok.
Best wishes,
Stan
