I'm looking at a new to me boat with a VP DP-SM outdrive. VP is new to me as I've only dealt with Merc's.
Had the boat surveyed and he caught that the drive bellows has a cut and obviously needs to be replaced. I also noticed the exhaust bellows isn't really a bellows as it is a short straight tube. I think some bravos have this to. Do VPs have a similar shift cable bellows?
I called a local shop to get a quote to do a bellows job. I did not mention drive shaft only. They quoted $600 rounded up, tax, etc. I called a shop back home and they quoted $1500. I know for Mercs, a bellows job would include drive, exhaust, shift cable and water tube. Is it the same for a VP?
I'm going to call the shops back again and confirm whats in the price. Are prices in NC that much cheaper than PA? Probably not.
Basically whats the difference between VP and Merc? I know Mercs have the special tool to set the retaining clip in the bell housing.
