Volvo SX-M1. Bellow seal outdrive side

Just replaced the drive bellow. It baffles me how this seals to the outdrive side. When the drive is pushed and bolted back up does the flat part of the drive seal to the flat part on the bellow? Don’t understand this at all.
BTW. That was a little tough installing the new bellow but not too bad. Just takes patience.

Yes. The drive side of the bellows is a press fit seal. Just make sure the gimbal housing lip is clean, the seal lip is over the gimbal housing lip, and you apply triple guard grease, or equivalent, on the drive section the inserts into the seal.

I have the same design on my OMC Cobra (Volvo just adapted OMC's transom design) it seals just fine. Just clean the inner lip of the bellows and the bearing carrier and coat both with OMC/Evinrude triple guard grease.
Also on the Volvo you should coat the mating surfaces of both the pivot housing and the upper gear housing, these can corrode together as the Volvo does not use a gasket there whereas the OMC did...that can make drive removal a challenge...
