I do indeed have a purple wire with white stripe that has a rubber plug in it and my engine is a mercruiser 5.7LX that originally came with a 2BBL carb. carb was changed to rochester 4 BBL Manual choke carb. I blew engine and replaced with a vortec 5.7 and marine 1409 electric choke carb and just want to make sure i know which ignition system i have so i can set base timing or timing in general for my first start up. Its not currently in the boat yet but getting all my ducks in a row
you can run it on the gorund before you drop it back in pretty easily to test everything out.

Here's another question for you guys.

So I went on a spending spree on the mercruiser parts website Bam I guess is what it's called.

And I ordered lots of new things engine mounts for the transom flywheel housing and y new bolts and washer kit with fiber washers but the flywheel mount kit also came with fiber washer kits lol
I ordered all new bolts and washers for the front engine mounts as well.

I ordered everything based on my engine serial number so I think it gave me the original style mounts and washer kit not the new groove style or knurled bushing set.

Well I was at it I also ordered the NLA lifting eyes the one that goes on the thermostat housing and the other one that goes on the back of the intake manifold

But I started thinking about things I have a new aluminum intake manifold and it doesn't feel like a safe or good idea to mount lifting eyes on aluminum and take manifold or the threads can rip out holding up a thousand pound cast iron engine.

So for now I just have bolts in the exhaust manifold ports on number one and number eight opposite from each other and that seems to work well but what do you guys think do you think it's safe to install the lifting eyes and use those or stick with my original setup.

I dont think that thermostat lifting eye is used for anything but taking some weight off the engine front for alignment. Mine had two liftng eyes font and back on opposite heads like you outline. Normally a bolt into any cylinder head accessory bolt hole will do the trick. Don’t really need the eyes just run the bolts through the chain

and yes i wouldnt lift from an aluminum intake thermostat port But i could be wrong …
