I have 2 newer 350 vortec chevy's. Can anyone say with certainty how many drain plugs are on these motors? 4 each?

Thanks, Mike

Gee, don't ya think it might help to know what Make (Volvo, Mercruiser, Marine Power, Kodiak) it is, maybe what year, carbed or fuel injected, raw or closed cooled, a full model number, not just a HP rating or it's a 350 Vortec.
What drive. Any accessories added to the cooling system, are you draining oil, water, what?

Just some of the things that makes a difference.

Re: Vortec drain plug?

Well Don, I'm not draining the carburetor, or the fuel injectors. Also, since it's winter I'm not doing a routine oil change. And, if it was a closed system, I wouldn't be draining it most likely, now would I? I'm sorry I don't have the serial number of the motor. Just asking a very simple question.

Don, I love ya, and you obviously know a ton about boats, but I wish I had a dime for every time you ask for a serial number on this site, or your responses seem just a bit snappy. So, 350 vortec, block plugs? Anyone besides Don I guess?

Thanks, Mike

There are 2 block plugs. But there is more to it than that.
If you are the type that wants exact answers to vague questions, You are starting on the right foot.

And, if it was a closed system, I wouldn't be draining it most likely, now would I?

I would sure hope you would be wanting to drain the raw water side of the system......... Wouldn't you

Re: Vortec drain plug?

A few years back we sold a new motor to a new customer.Customer's former Dealership's salesman said "just pull the bilge drain plug and keep the bow high. It's self draining".

I wish there were more salespeople like that. But maybe the customer asked how to drain the boat, not how to drain the engine.

The best answer to how many plugs ......

ALL of them !

Yes, I think I found them. Using Don's answer of 2, and careful searching, I think that was it. I did also drain the manifolds, and the cooler. Sure got alot of water out of there, and I did pull the thermostat out and filled all the lines and the block up with AF. Thanks!
