Hello

Please help. I have a 89 citation with a aq 151 and 290 outdrive. Have just noticed that it will not trim up. It is in the down position at the moment and indicating, on the display, in the down position. When i press the up switch the pump does nothing but if i hit the down switch the pump runs but the outdrive doesnt move.
From memory when i move either up or down the movement would be limited. It would stop and a red light would come on, on the display. But this isnt happening.
Im pretty sure its the early trim pump, the one without the white plastic resevoir below.

Could it possibly be a position sensor problem ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Dave

Does it go up if you push the over ride button at the same time?

I've had that problem a few times with different boats and it's always the wiring, although I did have a switch go bad once. Sounds like the pump is fine, and it won't go down any further because it has hit the lower limit. Check for corroded connections or a broken wire. Probably not a short or the fuse would blow.

It was low in oil, a quick top up and its fine.

Couldnt figure out why it would still try and pump for down but not for up ?

Anyway thanks for your replys, i was dreading the worst.

Re: VP 290 outdrive not lifting up.

if your low on oil, you most likely have a leak. my boat is an '88, and had the original oil in it prior to me servicing it.

take a look at the rams, I am willing to bet one is wet from oil.
