I hear alot about the vro giving problems in the early years. I have a 1991 vro is that early or late? I am thinking of disconnecting but have had no problems so far. It seems to be a bit more efficient also.

I had a 1991 Johnson 115 with VRO and never had a single problem with it or with anything on the engine and I got it in 93 and had it until 2000. I'm not sure what year they started with VRO but I have never had any problems with it.

Check the wiring harness for the vro pump. If it has a three wire connection it's "older", if it has a four wire connection it's "newer".
