Sunday I heard Kennedy say that the White House needed to pull the oil company heads in to have a sit-down face-to-face with them. This AM I heard Frist say essentially the same thing. Pressure is building.

Re: "W" Saves The Day!

Actually I saw this and said, dadgum it pres, you are pouring a glass of water on a housefire. This will make little if any difference.

Especially the strategic reserve thing. Funny, every time talk of using the strategic reserve comes up, the republicans say it wont help. And I agree. Now the president is doing something merely to appease the sheeple. So much for standing for your convictions GWB.

But on the other hand, what is the plan of the democrats???? Opposite of Bush?? Oh yea, they have no plan.

And calling in the oil company execs will do what??? What will they tell them, that the supply and demand market is unfair???? While the oil companies are enjoying this short term gain, they are also worried about a huge reduction in demand, or that the "alternative" oil sources will become profitable and thus flood the market.

And should the government subsidize gas prices. A big no no. This will just make the problem worse because the high gas prices will cause demand to go down to their natural level. Subsidies will not cut demand, which is what we need.

The president should call for all Americans to conserve energy right now. That is the only thing the president can really do that might have some effect. Make it a civic duty to reduce energy consumption and if we follow through, this would work.

Ken

No, Ken, I think Haut and his buddies would be well content if the government took over everything.

I think it's up to the state's to take action, not the federal government.

The states could do something similiar to Japan in this regard, with license plates. The bigger the vehicle, the more your plate costs. That's incentive to buy a smaller vehicle, while maintaining the freedom to buy what you want.

And the only way to get that to happen, is for the people in each state to voice their opinion on the matter. But that won't happen, because AMERICANS WANT BIG TRUCKS. I want a big truck too, but I also have a bike to use more often during the summer to save the fuel.

$3.00 per gallon of gas is cheap, considering the cost of getting it out of the ground or from below the seas to refinement and blending with various additives, then transported to a gas station, all of this prior to being pumped into your vehicle.
How much do you pay for a gallon of bottled water? or a gallon of soda pop? and what about a gallon of Starbucks coffee?

Gas prices at $3.00 a gallon is a bargain.

In Europe you pay road tax.The idea is that the heavier the vehicle, the more damage it causes to the roads. At tax time time you send in your mileage and vin number. You get taxed accordingly.

The FTC should investigate the energy dept. who mandated the switch from MTBE to ethanol without being ready to do the technical aspects necessary for the switch.

I agree with banning MTBE as it is bad when it contaminates groundwater, but they had to either be ready for the replacement or temporarily suspend pollution rules until they were.

Speedwagon, some states already do that........... I pay a lot more to register and renew the plates on my truck than my car.

What really needs to happen is we need to stop all the different fuel blends and pick one national standard. Those of use you have to use the reformulated crap understand we have to use more of it.

Heavier cars do pay higher taxes. When they use more fuel, they pay via the 32 cents/gallon tax.

Ken
