WAIT - Tilt/Trim fluid drip - off cyl not the pump?

Now, if I wasn't before (which I was and still am) I am stumped. I don't know what to fix, or have someone else fix I mean. Small leak off left hydraulic cylinder onto the newspaper. Could one or two drips in 24 hours be enough to have it sag in the water? I raised and lowered the motor about 15 times in this time period. 125hp (1258x5a) As my earlier posts have stated I don't know if I can use heavier fluid, need a rebuild (if so, of what) have a leak, need to bleed (if so, where and how), cylinder rebuild, etc etc
etc

Re: WAIT - Tilt/Trim fluid drip - off cyl not the pump?

Ok again i am not sure if this is right but my manual says it needs to be a
30w oil non detergant. Also i believe that to do the leak test it is suppose to be left alone and not raised or lowered. One other thing is that if there is a leak while it is sitting in the drive or even still not running then if you put the pressure from the motor running onto the rams it will drop faster due to the amount of force being put on a leak. So if the cylinder is leaking that may be it. But as for the fluid missing if it isnt going out of the system then it has to be in the motor and trust me they dont react that well to any kind of fluid being inside them.

Engine running or not shouldn't affect the system pressure should it? Power to the pump comes from the battery and should only be affected by a weak or fully charged battery. Am I correct, or misinformed?

you're shooting at too many targets and missing them all.

If you are adding fluid then the first order of business is to find and fix the leak. It is not possible to accurately troubleshoot drift down from a system that loses fluid. Until your system can go for weeks without having to add any fluid then there is no point in further discussions about other possible problems.

Once your system stays full and there is no more need to top off then you can make meaningful diagnosis of other, if any, problems.

Re: WAIT - Tilt/Trim fluid drip - off cyl not the pump?

Trying not to shoot at everything in sight, just getting posts back with a lot of targets to shoot at. Overnight, I now have a drip directly under the right tilt cyl. Nothing anywhere else. I just raised the motor up. Slight sizzle, sounded like air or other contaminate squeezing through the system. Went to look at cylinders and the trim cylinder has fluid dripping out of it. Didn't have any one this over the last couple of days but I do now. Called Pennzoil and the viscosity of their trim and tilt fluid is ISO70, which is according to the customer service person comparable to 20 weight. Motor drops at rate of 1/6" per second. These are the only facts I know. What should be my next step?
