Last December, my wife ordered Christmas gifts for the family. Everything was shipped and received.

This morning my wife got a call from WMart saying they can't charge our credit card for an item that didn't get paid for. Our cards are now in the hands of credit counseling organization and they can't be used.

The rep from Wmart said that they charge the account when the items get shipped, but somehow this one item didn't. Now that it has been 4 months, why now? So now we are going back through our statements to find out if we are responsible or not.

I feel that they should eat this bill since it was their screw up to begin with. No more online purchase for us ever. Our research on why we over-extended ourselves reverts back to everything bought online. It is just too easy to click and buy. Cards are now history and went out in the woodburner ashes. 4 more years and we will be credit card debt free.

Two words...Debit card. You can get yourself overdrawn, but you won't financially ruin yourself. Mine is a VISA thru my checking account and you can use it anywhere that accepts VISA. I'm in credit limbo myself and down to one card to pay off. Once I get out, I'm getting one (only!) with a $500 limit.

I burnt about 15 credit cards a few years back, 1 bank loan +$20000 dollars cleaned up my problem. Never again

SS, good for you on the credit counseling! CC's are a wonderful thing IF they can be handled well. Unfortunately (I want to say "most" here, but have no statistics to back it up) there are people that cannot handle them correctly. Do whatever you can do to get the credit card debt off your back, then start living again (just not on credit).

As for the Wal-Mart deal, do your records show that you paid it? If so, then you have a beef. If not, then Wal-Mart has already given you a 4 month interest free loan!

Im not perfect, (Ya, I know thats a shock to some)! :p Ive been in credit card hell in the past. I have been absolutly debt free for about ten years. Sometimes Im without things for a while, while I save money to but them, but there is a certain amount of gratification when you do finally save the money and pay cash. Americans need to get over the "I want it now" lifestyle.

And the cell phone thing is quickly running familys into the poor house. Cell phones are good, but use the prepaid kind.

Sounds like a simple and honest mistake.

If Wal Mart sent you an item without charging you for it then you need to either pay them or send the item back (they pay shipping since it was their mistake). But there is no reason the item should be free. If the item was already paid for, then show poof and let your credit card company deal with Wal Mart. I love credit cards. I spend about $5K a month with mine. That gives me a free airline ticket every 4 months. I always pay them off interest-free. Lots of bennies and security with them too. If I can't afford what I want to buy then I don't buy it.

Ya, I didnt say that I dont have any, I use someone elses money all the time, I just pay them off when I get the bill. We are all the time going out to dinner on Discover. I buy all my building materials and such when I do things on the side with it and it adds up quickly.

I live on my credit card. Get the rewards and pay off every month. The secret is to pay off the entire amount due every month. If you can't do that, don't charge, save up for what you think you "need". Need and want are two separate things.
