want start

I have a 1973 85hp johnson and when i try to start it it want start. i have to use starting fluid in order for it to pick up enough fuel to start. But after it warms up it wil fire right off. but when its sets for a hour or so i have to use starting fluid. I know my electric chock seems to be working, any suggestions

Starting fluid has no oil so never use it on a 2 stroke. A spray bottle of premixed gas is a better way to go. Have a look through this file and try the various ideas to try to determine your problem. If you have questions let us know. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks i will give it a try.

I am also having problems with my power trim. Power trim will raise up and down fine when out of water or in neutral, but when i go to throttle forward the motor comes all the way down. Also when i go into reverse the motor want to come up. sometime the motor wants to leak back down. should i be able to move the trim up and down when in speed? If so i want come up unless im not in gear.
