OK I have no tach in my console now. I do obviously have the grey wire. It appers to exit under the console in a rubber plug with 3 wires. The plug is round but the actual part that engages is a half circle, if this makes any sense. Anyway i beleive that is the grey tack wire as well as power and ground for a tach in that plug. I dont have the original console for the boat so i dont know what it came with?

Can i hook up an automotive tac temporarily to that grey wire or does there have to be some special setting in the tach, which is why you see OMC and Yamaha tacs and so forth? Also does that sound like an oem plug under my console that i could just get an OMC tac and plug it up to work?

You can get the harness for a tach and the tach right here at i-Boats. You will need an outboard tach and set it at 6P to match the output of your stator.

Yes the gray wire is for your tach, there is also a purple wire (12VDC), and a black wire (ground) , thus the 3 contact plug.

No you do not use a regular automotive tach.

Yes it is an OEM plug.

As bhile stated you can get the harness and tach on Iboats if needed.
