want to switch ford to gm engine

hi everyone , my neighbour has a steel boat with a 302 ford engine with a merc sterndrive. , he wants to pull that engine and put in a 350 chev engine, he wants to know if the merc stern drive will bolt up to the chev engine or not . thankyou .

as long as the rear motor mount housing is the same width as the transom plate

Ayuh,... If it's got a Ford now, the drive is an MC-1, so he'll need a 350 set up for an ole MC-1 too,.....

A late model 350, dressed for an Alpha 1, or Gen.II won't fit,.....
The narrow bolt pattern rear motor mounts went away with the MC-1s,....

Was it the change from 14 inch flywheel to 12 inch flywheel that changed the rear mount holes?
