I am posting this for my father, he has a 1990 28 horsepower Evinrude,he has got a warning alarm that sounds after approx.5mins.of running at medium throttle,it is pushing a 24 foot pontoon boat.I am an auto tech and am not familiar with the setup on this motor. It has a temp sensor in the head and the best I can tell it is either opened or closed. When the alarm sounds it runs terrible.Does it have a t-stat or how can I check this? Sorry I am new to this,Thanks for taking time to read this.Paapa2

[*] bernardryan984@aol.com

Re: warning alarm

I really wouldn't recommend removing the thermostat,
see thread on thermostat stuck open for a good reason why. If you want to find out if it is really
overheating, check it with thermo meter should be
140-165 (in general, not sure on your specific motor)

Radio shack sells a nice little infra'd digital
thermometer for about 30$, simply point it at the
head and push a button, instantly reads temp on
a digital display.

Is your motor VRO? Could the alarm be a VRO alarm?

Mike
