Warning horn trouble

Hi,

I picked up an '86 this summer and found the warning horn melted. I bought a used one on ebay, the guy claimed it works. Plugged it in and nothing. Grounded tan wire and nothing. Connected straight to battery and nothing. What am I missing? or did I get scammed?

Is the horn supposed to chirp when key is switched on or to start?

Re: Warning horn trouble

Voltage to one terminal and ground the other, horn should sound off. When in the system the horn has voltage to one terminal whenever the key is on, the ground is supplied by the temperature switch when overheated. You didn't list what model you have, but there might be a grounding point on the oiling system also.

Don't see why not. The OEM one is sealed up, but I think any 12 volt horn will work.

It's a 60hp used to be VRO but its been converted.
I put a testlight on the terminals and grounded the tan wire on the engine. It lights up.
Looks like I got scammed.
