hello, this is my first post and i appreciate your experts input. i have a 89' force 85 hp that ran really well for a couple months only in fresh water in oklahoma. then it got really hot and blew the head gasket, so i took took the head cover to get looked at and the machine shop said it was badly warped so they shaved it to perfection, i put a new gasket, impeller and plugs in it and fired in up in my driveway with a hose. it smoked real bad and the pugs had water on them. i think my block is warped as well and i wanna know if there is any way to get it back to good without taking it all apart and have the block machined. my friend said i could simply take a couple tenths on the surface with a sander to get it even but i really think hes an idiot so ive come to you guys for some input. thank you for looking

Uh, Yeah! Agree with you about your friend!

Heads can be surfaced by hand with sandpaper on a sheet of glass and that will be accurate enough. Blocks, however must be "decked" in a special milling machine.

Now, the combination of milling the head and decking the block may push up compression ratio to the point where you need premium fuel.

However, before you go to all the trouble and expense of disassembly and decking, inspect the block closely: You May have a cracked cylinder, OR the exhaust chest gaskets and/or stainless baffle plate may have been damaged by the overheating. Actually, this is the most likely reason for water in the cylinders.

So: Your next step is to remove the exhaust cover and check. Be ultra careful, those 1/4 inch screws snap real easy and are a pain to drill out.

Check with a piece of glass. Glass is very flat and it can be use to see if it's warped too much?
Make sure it's absolutely clean and smooth(as possible) then put the glass on the spaces where it will fit?

Thank you guys for your input. I figured i would give yall a little more information to help yall (and me) with a diagnosis. the intrusion is just in the middle cylider there is also carbon marks on the gasket ring going towards the outside so i dont think the gasket isnt sealing properly. there is also gas and oil leaking out of my exhaust. thank you for taking the time to help me sort this out and get me back in the wind!
