0113121451a.jpg0113121508.jpgMy buddy wants to trade his 16 ft starcraft open bow for my 67 15ft jet. My boat is sound but could stand some transom work and currently runs a 50hp merc. His boat has new wood floors that have been rhino bed liner coated and new transom. Also comes with a 67 Evinrude 80hp that runs real good just needs remounted. The boat also comes with a full top in decent shape. The trailer is a roller and not bad. As far as the inside goes the carpet is decent when its not buried in tree leaves. But the back to back seats are shot, so it needs them. Im not sure what year or model it is though any guess? I will pop up a few pics0113121356.jpg0113121357.jpg

Looks like a Super Sport, as for year I would look for the hull number since normally the first two numbers are the year. As for the trade, which style would you like the best? I love my Jet more then I would a SS but there are many SS lovers on here

I like my jet well enough, but its kinda small when I have both kids and wife along. The 16 ft offers alot more elbow room along with the forward seating bla bla. The highlight is that it has new rack steering and it also gets me away from merc power that I dont care much for. I will probably go for it, even if I need to do some work. But since the motor is already off and seats out, now would be a good time for some paint topside.

I don't see a reason not to. I'm a fisherman so the open bow is a real plus. 85 horse on a 16' sounds fun too. Does a 16' sound better than a 15' to you? If so why not. No matter what is wrong with these tinnies it's an easy fix. Make a list of all the plus and minus, then review it. I like Evinrudes/Johnsons too, as long as their not an electric shift. Sounds like a deal to me.

Sounds like a nice trade, both boats need a little something, and you both get what you want.

The only draw back could be if something were to go wrong with one of the boats, is there a chance that it might effect the friendship?

Yea, most of the time I am fishing out of it. The 16 seems alot wider then the jet as well so it may be a bit more comfortable in some of the big rivers like the snake and colombia. I also like the full glass wind screen bla bla. seems the are quite a few more pros over the jet for my tastes and uses.

No we been friends for 20+ years and have been threw it. We both watch out for eachother threw it so its not shaky dealings. Besides he fishes with me so if I get swamped he does to ;)

You mention a lot of leaves? that means perhaps a lot of rain. Check the transom and the floor where you can. .Rhino liner over a wet floor could hide a lot of problems. Just my thoughts.

Re: Was offered a trade for my 67 Jet. Your thoughts?

The floor is solid and new wood before it was lined, I helped him redo it and the foam last year. The inside floor has been treated with gluvit. It has a full cover, but for some dumb reason he did not put it on. I did the trade and will be pulling it here tomorrow to clean it up. The 80 horse was mine and it runs like a top. Its been sitting in his shop since I sold it last year to him. Its a older motor (67) but it should really make that 16 go. I plan on sanding it down and painting the top side of the boat as well as the motor. I dont have to much time to get it all done before Kokanee season starts. I think I did well for the trade. I feel better about it because I know for fact what has and has not been done to the boat.

Right where do you fish for the kokonee?? My parents lived in Corvalis before thry passed away and used to live in Alsea just west of town near the River. I bought the boat ,I rebuilt ,a 16 SS from a fellow in Lincoln City and had to do a overhaul just to get it home 250 miles each way, then siold the boat to pay taxes and almost came out even on $ but never the labor . You will have a nice boat when done I had a 50 Rude on the one I sold and it was very fast with that.. Good luck.

I am all over for the Kokanee, But Green peter res. is about 10 miles from my place. Its loaded with them so I fish 4-6 times a week. If not there I head over to Cresent lake or Odell. Those two lakes can get out of control with the wind in a hurry so they are a hit or miss.

For a fishing rig you'll be way happier with the open bow. Great move!

Nice trade. For a fishing rig you'll be way happier. Johnson's are easier to keep running, althoug, not as sexy as a Merc. The SS will be a lot wider too. Good for you.

My first thought was about the condition of the floor underneath, when you mentioned the leaves. Sounds like it sits out without weather protection. But you said it was redone last year, so if you like the deal, go for it! Sounds like a pretty good trade and you can start keeping it covered, and the floor will last. You'll love the extra room with the family.

Yea, the floor boards are kinda neat. They are sprayed about 1/8 coat of that textered urethane on both sides and edges. They are locked down pretty good. Its only been uncovered about a month so its not to bad. But I will be pulling it home and storing in a shop so all should be well. As far as fishing goes, I can see a few more benifits over the jet due to increased size. The open bow will be nice for dropping anchor in quick rivers as well. Dont get me wrong I really liked the jet in just about every way. The SS which is a 1978 by the way just will fit better I believe. That big old 80hp Evinrudes hood is huge compared to the Merc 500, but I can live with it until a 50 horse evin johnny drops in my lap. Beside that I am at least somewhat familar with how it works so keeping it going will be less stressful. I had just rebuilt the carbs and impellar and lower seals when I sold it off. Its not been in the water since, so I am at least am forward on the project by that much.

well it looks like the deal fell apart. My little ford ranger 2 wheel did not like the size or weight of the boat. It was all over the place to even go 45 mph. No worries, so I went and scooped up my Jet. Oh well maybe it was not ment to be.

Are you sure the trailer setup just doesn't need to be adjusted? Seems you should be able to pull that.

On the bright side is there is one, you won't have to change your avatar. :( I'm surprised the Ranger had problems. There isn't much difference in weight. Something with the trailer maybe?.
