By the way guys, just exactly do you use salt away products with a stern drive? its not like i can put it in a barrel. I usually use muffs and fresh water for 5 or 10 minutes.

Salt Away is designed to be used with a garden hose and muffs. There are instructions included but basically:

There is a container you put the product in that the garden hose enters then another hose exits.

There is a position indicator on the container so you warm up the motor in "by-pass" mode which is straight water and no Salt Away.
Then when you're ready to introduce the Salt Away, simply turn the position indicator on the container and the product now flows with the water. When you see the Salt Away now coming out the exhaust (very easy to tell) turn off the engine and water supply and it sits in there.

The same way you use it with an Outboard.
Attach the mixer to the hose on the muffs.

Salt away is a mild solution of Sulfamic Acid.
Some people use Vinegar for the same effect.

Motors drain; they do not hold water.

If left in the water only the power heads of outboards drain. I/O's stay as full as the water line is high. The lower in your boat the engines are mounted the more water stays in them.

Thousands of boats, for decades, do fine in salt water with never a flush.

And thousands of saltwater motors end up in a heap behind busy marine dealers, too. One thing for sure, not many end up there because they were flushed. What the hell is so contentious about flushing ...

Depends on the car, some cars DO require it and will spin a bearing fairly quickly (under 10k miles) without synthetic. Run conventional oil through a turbo and it will coke up and sheer to something similar to water in consistency.
nothin to add about salt BUT I have a turbo engine in my pickup that has run for over 330,000 miles with nary a drop of synthetic oil and semi's often get a couple million miles without synthetic.... turbo's don't automatically require synthetic oil

Ok carry on with Salt/Antisalt bickering

Bearings coking in turbo's involves many more factors then just the oil involved... Journal or ball bearing, ran till glowing and shut straight down, or allowed to idle and drop temp gradually (ala turbo timer or otherwise), and water-cooled or straight oil cooled bearing housing. Synth is more resistant to coking but its not the first and last page in the book.

Why would one would leave salt water in an engine when they have a chance to flush the salt water out with fresh water at some point? Really?

Water stays in the engine long after you trailer it out. Just remove the thermostat housing and you will see how much water is still in there.

There are a lot of fresh water flush systems that are available for boats kept slipped in salt water as well.

If you flush, your engine and manifolds will last longer. It is your choice I guess if you don't have the 15 minutes available in your life to do it.

Personally, I use the Volvo Neutra salt system. I inject the solution as I am pulling the boat out of the salt water and just before I turn it off after flushing.
