evienrude 9.9 E10RCSE

have been running this motor since last summer and it has always driped from the (telltail?) the small hole on the right top(black grommlet). and would spray water and mist out of the double holes in the center. Recently it stoped moving water all together.
The impelller was melted, i changed it out last night but still no discharge.

I have a couple buddys helping me out and we each have our own opinion on how much water should be pissing and where. Should there be a steady stream like running water or more of a spray/mist? How bout the double holes? Is that for exhaust or water or both?
i want to try and clear out the passages with some weedwacker string, but im still not sure where to start.

Water should spray/mist out of those exhaust holes. Since your impeller was melted, chunks could have been pumped up the tube to the power head, and are lodged in there. Personally, i would remove the lower unit, remove the head/thermostat, and check out the tube etc for impeller shrapnel.

Also check that upper water tube grommet, they are known for kinking or deforming and blocking water flow into the power head.

A mist and exhaust will not likely appear at the exhaust bypass holes if you are running the engine on muffs. It should pump water even with a bad impeller on muffs since water is being forced through the system by the pressure of the hose. With the engine in the water and at idle, you will see a small amount of exhaust and mist from the bypass holes -- thats because of the back pressure on the through-hub exhaust. Since you toasted the old impeller, there is a good chance those bits are clogging the cooling system.

thanks Cofe. i wasnt aware there was a thermostat. i thought it was just open. would it be ok to feed wire up in the double holes?
