Alright this is my first motor with a thermostat in it, tell tale, and prop exaust so just making sure Im thinking this through correctly on how the water flows and exits.

I hooked it up on the muffs and started it up and ran it for 1 to 2 minutes just to see if it ran. Had an increase flow out the tell tale once it was running so it appeared the water pump increased the flow and was pumping, looked like I was also getting a small flow of water out of the prop exaust. Now what I didnt see was water flowing out the exit vents on the side of the leg, will this only happen once the thermostat opens up and how hot does it get before this happens?

With the boat in the water the exhaust housing is full of water, causing water to come out of the two exhaust ports. Running on a hose the exhaust housing is empty and all the water goes out of the exhaust. Even when in the water you will not get a solid stream of water out of the exhaust ports, it just spits out.

I have similar question. The water on my 50 anniversary 50 hp Johnson doesn't come out as a stream at all. It's a 1972 engine I believe, instead it comes out of two slots- not a steady stream. Is this normal?
