I have a 06 4 stroke 115 TJR jet, I had new short block and cylinder head as well as a new oil pump and water pump replaced all OEM parts. I broke the engine in according to the owners manual and ran the boat for about a total of 2.5 hrs. They were all short runs of about 7 min running it at about 4400 rpms after the initial break in, the rest of the time was at idle or max 3200 rpms flushing out the motor at the local lake. I went to put the boat away for two weeks while I was out of town and decided to change the oil as a precautionary measure. When I dropped the plug maybe a 1/4 cup of water came out. I did smell it and it seemed like it was water to me, I did not smell fuel. I checked the thermostat and there was no debris stuck in there it was in the closed postion. I live in AK and the weather has been pretty cold and the water I am running in is cold probably 40 degrees. Is it possible that the water is condensation, 1/4 cup after 2.5 hrs? I find that hard to believe but have read about 115's having a problem with this. I did not check the plugs I now wish I had before I left town. Any one have similiar experinces? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Re: Water in Oil

dropback1, the water was seperated from the oil? You are talking about your crancase oil, correct? While running if the oil gets water contaminated it will turn grey in color. What color was the oil?

Re: Water in Oil

a 1/4 cup of water in your oil wil turn the oil like a white milkshake.

plus will most likely destroy the bearings in the motor.

lack of lubrication plus pitting corrosion.

i dont think its water.

what kind of oil do you put in your outboard?

sure its not gas?

Dropback1 if it is gas you maybe able to smell it. It would probably thin your oil drastically, too. Good Luck

I don't think it is gas I smelled it and could not smell fuel at all, I have read about a number of these engines making oil and I did check to see if it was gas. 1/4 cup is probably a little much it was more like 4 table spoons that came out right at the bottom of the cranckase, I don't know how much emulsifed into the oil. It was an off brownish grey color keep in mind this was brand new oil with 2.5 yrs on it. When the cylinder head cracked I had a mikshake coming out of there so I do know what that looks like. I run yamalube in my engine I changed it and called the mechanic he said to wait and bring it in to him when I returned does that seem like an excessive amount off condensation?

It's not condensation. Your head may still have some issues. I would change the oil and keep a good eye on it. Is it possible this could be remains from your previuos issue? 2.5 years seems like a long time not to change your oil. Good Luck.

You are right 2.5 yrs is a long time not to change your oil this was changed after 2.5 hours sorry typo. Like I said I was going out of town and wanted to see if there was anything other than oil in the cranckcase.

Re: Water in Oil

The 2.5 hours was put on it the week after I got it from the shop, so the oil was only a week old. The new motor only has 2.5 hrs.

a couple of drops of water defenatly a table spoon will churn your oil in a coffee color with half and half in it.

some shops use solvents to flush out your block.
some use diesel some use tranny fluid , might be some resideu left over .

if its 4 table spoons of water you would have had a creamy oil comming out the engine.
