Hello all, I am looking for info on a magnum 350. I drained the oil and 2 quarts of water emptied first before the milky oil. Having problems getting old oil filter off to start with. The previous owner said no cracked block. The oil level was high when I purchased.I know that going in. I have been told that if I take the boat in to be have the block checked they will fill it with new oil and if the water shows up in the oil immediately it is a cracked block and not a head gasket or other gaskets. Is this how they test the block?? Thanks

easier to pull the spark plugs , remove the therm hose from the top fitting, inset garden hose into therm hose, and fill block.
water leaking inside the boat, from the spark plugs, or out the dipstick would indicate a crack most of the time.

Is there any evidence of water being in the boat. If the previous owner left the plug in and rain water filled high enough in the boat the water in the motor could have gotten in that way. I have seen a lot of boats in dry storage at the marina have this problem. If this is the case you can usually find a water line somewhere in the boat that shows how deep it got. Look in areas that would be hard to clean up by the previous owner.

Well, it sounds like you have a fun project on your hands. . .

Assuming the previous owner was not lying about "no cracked block", then that could leave the manifold as being the thing that is cracked. You could run a compression test, as that might help point the way. I also like the idea given by Bt Doc of running some water through the block to see.

Does this engine run at all?

.... The previous owner said no cracked block. ...

He was trying to sell the boat.... Would you have bought the boat if he said there was a crack in the block? If you say NO, then you have your answer as to why he told you there was no crack....

All those answers are fine but.
I'd put change oil & filter, pull the drive (if ALPHA) & see that it runs.

Nevermind, just reread the post.

The motor fires up everytime and is smooth sounding. I think I"ll try the water thru the block first.

Did you get the oil filter off? You can buy on oil filter tool at an auto store.

No I have not. Bent 2 of them already
Take a big heavy screw driver or tire iron and drive it through dead center and give it a good crank. It's no good anyways. Or even a big plumbers wrench. Never failed me yet.

Change the oil and filter with no sign of water. Just don't know how 2 quatrs of water got in. Maybe the previous owner took on water at some pont.

I had my old Silverline sitting for two seasons and I know everything was winterize. I took the tarp off and notice a lot of moisture in the boat and in the engine compartment so I opened the compartment lid to dry off in the sun. I forgot to close it that night and it poured rain that night and all day before I remembered. I checked the oil and sure enough the pan was full of water. If your lucky maybe same case.

No not yet. Just trying to get a jump on the season. Tonight snow in the forecast. Gotta love Colorado

Forgot to post. I need to check blower and bilge. Not turning on. I hit one toggle switch and both lights on dash light up but neither turn on. Wires with fuses look bad with rust. I will hot wire to check they work then work from there. Any ideas will help. Thanks to all iboat members.

Re: Water in oil

Just so you know, it may not have enough water flow running on the hose to show a crack in the block. Once you put it in the water and run it you will know for sure then if it's cracked or has a issue with manifolds/risers.

Next chance I get I will run it. Need to make sure bilge and blower are working first. Thnaks

Finally got it on the water. No water in block. It does put of some steam when taking off. Some more oil made its way to the bilge I did notice. Put back on trailer and it made its way back in the hull. Need to figure away to get it out next time out.
