I have the Clymers manual and it doesnt even go this far. Good news though. It is not cooroded at all but rather what you just described. It seams there is an oring around the bottom part of that shaft sitting about where the fat part of the tower and the thin part of the tower in that pic show. I was easily able to rotate that whole assembly inside the upper housing, so now I just need to know how to extract it without tearing anything up. I do have an entire upper seal kit on the way, but I can't count on that to replace something I might damage removing it incorrectly.<br /><br />There is a nut on top of the pinion gear I could try to remove, but if it is anything like the ball gear assembly, I wouldnt think this would need to be removed to take that whole housing out. Maybe it just requires a little bit of good ole fashion elbow grease to work out?
