Where is the water discharge on the motor? How long can I run it without water infeeding? Is the pump mechanic, how does the water get drawn through the motor?

Re: water intake and discharge

I am not sure what engine you have but the discharge is typically below the coweling (top of the engine). You will damage the pump within 30 seconds if there is no water there. The pumps are mechanicallydriven impellers in the lower leg. If you suspect no water it is better to replace the impeller and inspect your system than to risk catastrophic failure, such will cost you more.

drawn in through the slots in front of the propeller and discharged into the exhaust..Never run without water or pump damaged ..fit a pisser if it does not have one to confirm water flow ..

Always quote the engine model etc or makes it difficult

I have an Old 40 HP Force which seems to be getting hot. I have checked the water pump and it is fine. This is one engin which only puts out a spray of water from the engin. I pulled the 1/8" plug on top of the head thinking I should get water there, I only got hot exhaust. Whats up?

Sounds like its time to check your thermostat for and plugging. Also pull thermostat out pf housing, boil some water and drop it in and see if it opens. While you have thermostat out take a garden hose and insert it where thermostat was and back flush. Removing the lower leg works best for this.

hoot 45 welcome but you are a naughy boy ..you should start a new thread not confuse every one by bringing in a new motor...
it sounds to me like you have exhaust gas leaking into the water cooling ..you should get water out that plug....most common is the side exhaust cover ..take it off and check the stainless plate for holes and fit it all back sealed up ...always test your water in a barrel with the level about 6 in above the anti ventilation plate ..

Hoot,

You can also try just removing the thermostat and run the motor. If you have water at the hole when your stat is not installed, then your stat is plugged or bad (not opening). You should get water almost instantly. If you don't get water, then repost what happened. It could be a myriad of issues. Lets solve one step at a time.

I would recommend that you start a new post and I am sure you will get a lot of valuable information here.
