Water intake wire mesh

Recently bought a ´78 70HP Rude - so far, so good, but only after I brought her home did I notice that the wire mesh covering the water intake holes was largely gone on a couple of holes. <br /><br />Can this be replaced or fixed somehow? Don´t want to risk any debris being sucked in and blocking up the cooling.

Yes it can. You may have to remove the lower unit. You might as well do so to service the water pump.

It is a plastic screen assembly than you push down a cavity in the gearcase after you remove the water pump. Be sure to break off and remove any remaining plastic pieces arount the intake area before installing the new one.<br /><br />When is is fully in position, you will hear it click into place or see the nubs snap into place so it cannot be forced back up.
