I took off the water jacket, (don't know the right name), with 19 bolts in it on the side of the motor. . It has 3 pieces to it. There was a leak out of the bottom of the gasket the one that goes against the motor block. I checked with a straight edge & appears fine, but can't tell exactly where it leaked. The gasket was glued on pretty much & tore when I took it off.but when the motor was running there was a small squirt of water coming out of the bottom.. I ordered 3 new gaskets, one dealer says to put them on dry the other tells me they must be glued, which is correcet?? Also appears a bit of a white milky solution was in the bottom hole where I can see the piston..
When I took the 3 pieces off they were all glued, & had a lot of scraping..
thanks

The factory service manual says to use OMC Gasket Sealing Compound on both sides of the gaskets, and I agree.

Those motors had a problem. The thin plate would warp next to the exhaust ports and squirt water into the cylinders. You should pay particular attention to those areas. Gasket sealant won't cure a warped plate. Many a motor wound up being scrapped because of water ingestion.

Should I take the plates to a machine shop & get them to grind them or is there another alternative I can do??

I suppose it is either that or put in a new one.

Just the general torque for the screw size--as I remember it they are 1/4", right? Those would be 60-80 Inch Pounds.
