I have a leak at #2 cylinder which has caused the motor to skip and lose power. The mechanic has resealed the head, checked for good seal, taken the motor apart twice and still cannot find the leak. can anyone help? Has anyone seen this before? It is a 1991 Mariner short shaft 25 with about seven years use on it. Any help would be appreciated. Greg

I assume you mean the power head that was resealed?

It is a Mariner two cylinder 25 H.P. I believe the serial # is OC128242, and model # is 7025201P. It was purchased approx 4/89.
Thanks for any help you might offer.
I think the power head was resealed along with two gaskets on the side of the motor. These two were resealed after the powerhead gasket did not solve the problem. Looking at the engine from the tiller, the gaskets are on the right hand side. Greg

Had similar symptoms recently but on a three cylinder whereby it ran lumpy. a new exhaust gasket and water cover gasket nipped the problem into the bud. These gaskets are only cheap, very accessible and easy to fit. If you do suspect these: use only original spares, fit dry and do not over torque..Best of luck..
