75 SeaRay 888 Ford 302 I drive.....

Boat has just started taking on quite a bit of water.....overnight sitting on the water I would guess 30 gallons or so, filled up ski locker since bilge pump float stuck....

trying to troubleshoot the reason I noticed the sound of dripping water from rear area of engine with the drive tilted up......once the drive was tilted down the sound stopped (not sure if the leak did)....but throughout the day the bilge pump had to be run more than regular to keep the water out...

I don't really know anything about the bellows around the drive shaft...but could this be the culprit....? and if so how is it getting into the back of the boat....is it going past the gimbal bearing??

thanks in advance

i think i'd be pullin it out of the water and finding out about that.......dripin water is a bad idea.......drive up vs down and the drip stops? first place i'd look would be the bellows....

Re: Water Leakage

In my gimbal assembly, there is a drilled hole in the metal right above the gimbal bearing from the u-joints bellows area to the inside of the boat bilge. My guess is this is to let you know the water is leaking into the bellows area, but there may be a more reasonable explanation for the hole. Sounds like the bellows is leaking when trimmed or tilted and when not, the hole is being sealed off somewhat. This is all pure speculation. Maybe you will get a better answer from the experts here.

Or now that I think about it a second, could help to prevent a vacuum? Either way, if plenty of water gets in the bellows, I'd say it would drain through that hole. I could be off on both counts.

This is most likely the correct answer.......:(
The hole is positioned so that it lets more water in with the drive up......
Water will seep past the input shaft as well.....
You need to pull your drive right away......:(
