I have a 1986 Mercruiser 140 hp. serial #0A681921, or B403724 MCM 140 Transom Assembly.
there is a huge leak from behind the flywheel and the wheel is wobbly when I take off the belt. I think the shaft is loose? how can I fix this and what is a good repair manual to use to do this job?
thanks

Re: water leakage

Welcome to iboats :) Are you sure what you are calling the fly wheel is really the flywheel?
I don't know have acess to serial # identification, but there are those here that do.....
Don't waste your money on a Seloc or Clymer's, get a genuine Mercruiser Manual.....
There might even be some free online links, so stick around.....JK

Re: water leakage

Maybe it's not a flywheel, but it is the top pulley that I beleive goes to the crank shaft.
where can you get the good mercruiser manual and where are some links?
thanks for the help.

Re: water leakage

Don S. will have an answer about the exact manual for your needs....
I think you are talking about the water pump pulley.....
Bondo knows alot about these engines, he will have some good input....
While you are waiting around, you might try using the red 'search ' button at the top of the page.....
This subject has been discussed in length before & you might turn up some helpful links there ;) .....JK

Re: water leakage

sounds like a bad water pump.all you need is a replacement pump.

Re: water leakage

I rather doubt you're talking about the Flywheel,..... It's Totally Hidden by housings,+ is securely bolted to the Back of the Engine.........

By your discreption,.....

You need to replace the WaterPump........
It's mounted Above the Crankshaft on the Front of the motor.........

This is a Mercruiser Manual that is as Close as I can get to Your Motor...........
There Maybe suttle differences,do to dates of manufacture... But this IS your engine......

Re: water leakage

Just replace the pump......It ain't hard, if'n ya got the tools a & a little bit of know how...
Ya got the specs right on the first page, some times those files take a bit to load.....
You have an Alpha 1 Gen 1....
Bravo's are for larger H.P.....
If you have your serial # you should be able to look up your part on the Mercruiser site or at Bammarine ;) ......JK

Changing the Waterpump,.... Should Fix that......
If it's the Actual Pulley that's Bent,...... It'll need to be either Straigthened,.. or Replaced.......
