water leaks

Can anyone tell me how to fix a water leak at the two plates on the lower part of a motor. I have a 1995 Johnson 225 V6,when i was cleaning the motor with rabbit ears i noticed water coming out from behind plates that are on both sides of the motor (these plates are attached with 4 bolts)i never noticed or never looked before,is this becoming a serious problem?
