Water "Peeing" Question

'65 33 hp 'Rude - okay so since I am new to boating I want to make sure that I understand what it looks like to see "good" peeing. When I attach muffs and put the water on full from the faucet and then turn on the motor, I see water coming from the water intake (I assume the faucet is putting out more water then the motor can suck up), then I see water coming out of the water bypass (I assume this is water that isn't getting sucked up by the impeller), then lastly I see water "spitting" out of the water outlet. By spitting I mean it is not a solid stream but more of a solid "spitting" look. I know my impeller probably needs replaced, but my question is what would a "correctly" peeing engine look like? Would the water from the water outlet be completely solid? Should there still be water coming out of the bypass with the motor on?

Thanks in advance,
patrick

Your motor doesn't have "pee" tube unless someone added one to it. Spitting out the exhaust ports is what its supposed to do. If you don't know how old your water pump is the replace it by all means.

steady stream, yes water will come out the bypass also. the tell tale, pee hole, lets youknow the impeller is working properly, when the thermostat opens most of the water exist with the exhaust, but it must maintain a good stream. take a piece of weed eater string about 18" long and feed up the pee hole (sounds horrible). insect like to live in there, could be stopped up. if you don't know or remember the last time the impeller was changed, do it now, anyway. i always start mine on muffs, before leaving home, to be sure. well, launched, 6 people on dock waiting, started engine no pee, back on trailer. i was fine at home. had on the i know i need to do it list. ruined a day.

Re: Water

Things change when the motor is in water, as the pressure will now have it squirting out in other places, as to just falling out on muffs. Do the impeller anyway though first

Thanks...great info walker. I thought all engines had a "pee tube". i guess now I know better. The spitting I saw was from the exhaust port.

How hard, is it worth it (sounds like it is) and are there any detailed instructions written up on here on how to add a pee tube?
