Hey There,

I have an 87 Johnson 40hp outboard that I want to connecton a water pressure gauge to.
Do I "T" into the hose that is for the pee stream? or connect that hose directly to the gauge?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Water Pressure gauge

If you "T" into the tell-tale you would not see much pressure on your guage because the pressure would go out the tell-tale.
I would tap into the block and run a seperate tube for the guage, that way you would still have a tell-tale for visual reference.

Re: Water Pressure gauge

Do you have the water gauge kit yet? The Teleflex kits come with pretty complete instructions where and how to install. I've installed two in two different OMC engines and once I decided to actually study and follow the instructions, both worked great. By the way, one was indeed "T'd" into the telltale and it worked (as long as I put a T fitting that reduced the telltale diameter to the same as the pressure gauge tube). I tried to hook up the second one the same - assuming because both were V6's - it didn't work. I had to tap into one of the other water lines.

The lesson there is that there are differences even among engines that you'd think were the same, so it depends on the exact model and year of your engine.

So, my advice is either buy the kit and work through the instructions, or in the mean time, there are instructions online at the teleflex website, so you could look at them and see if they make sense for your engine.

It's a very simple installation though.
