I need help to find the water pressure sensor on the star board engine. It is not in the location shown for sensors on the internet. I think it might be on the power steering cooler but unable to find the cooler either. Can you attach a pic. The boat is a 2009 290 SLX1253 SeaRay with twin T-350 Mag engines.

Thank you
KD

Hi KD, and :welcome: to iboats.

The power steering cooler should be mounted across the rear of the engine, just on the top of the flywheel housing. The pressure sensor is in the starboard end of the cooler.

Call you post the serial number of the engine and I can look it up for you... The boat the engines are in is basically meaningless, we need to know about the engine, not the boat... :D

Cheers,

Chris.......

I am attaching pictures of what I see. When I unplug the wire harness from the sensor in the picture I get a temperature alarm. I am thinking that the single wire in the picture is a ground. Boat1.JPG

The pressure sensor is located on the power steering cooler as Chris mentioned. If you do not have regular PS but have hydraulic steering, the cooler is replaced with a brass tube. The tube or cooler is on the back of the engine and the sensor is screwed into it. See item 39

Even with an hydraulic helm system, the engine will still have a power assisted steering, and it's associated cooler. The photos are of the front of the engine, the cooler is at the rear. The plug you're removing is the digital temperature input to the ECU. The alarm you're hearing is not an overheat, it's the ECU telling you it has no signal from the temperature sensor....

Just had another look at the photos, and text. Which wire/s are you disconnecting? The single tan wire (stbd side of thermostat housing) is the sender for the temp gauge on the dash, nothing to do with an alarm, it's ONLY for the gauge. If you unplug it, all that will happen is the gauge will stop working (if you have the older analogue gauges). The plug on the port side of the thermostat housing is the digital temp sender.

Found it. Now I need to remove and replace it. I need to buy a socket to fit the sensor. What size socket do I need? Do you put teflon tape on the threads of the new sensor? Is the part number for the sensor: 710-8M6000623.

Thank for the help.

No teflon, it needs to ground. Use a liquid thread sealant, like Loctite 567... Not sure of the socket size.

The sensors give false readings quite often and is one of the major defects. The low pressure readings can also caused by a bad ground on the bolts and clamps which hold the cooler. Check them while your at it. I don't know the size socket sorry

Thanks for the help. The hole in the sensor was crusted over. Cleared the hole and reinstalled the sensor and works perfect.
