Hello, could someone tell me the way the rubber grommet in the exhaust cover is suppose to be placed. Does it fit over the back lip or does it go to it without going over it. Can someone tell me what the purpose of the water pressure valve?
The engine is a 1991 txrp 150hp,I checked the manual but it really does'nt explain it thank you for the help

Re: Water pressure valve

hello
it fits in the back lip. using a pick carefully clean all the corroision from the corner and the bore. be careful inserting the grommet. if you lose it to the inside its a pain to retrieve but is retrievable without cover removal. dont ask how I know. the reason is to keep water pressure stable thrhough out the rpm range. a the pump speed increases it can produce to much pressure, so the excess is bled off from the cover to the exhaust and out the prop. as the t-stats open and close it helps keepa steady pressure. if it stick open you willnote a very low pressure tell tale and the block wont fill with water at low speeds and will cause the top cylinders,#1 first, to overheat at low speeds. I use a pair of long needle nose and a long thin screwdriver to install them.

Re: Water pressure valve

Yamaha has a replacement valve part as well. The original valve is black plastic with X shaped fins on each end. One end mates with the spring the other inserts into the rubber grommet. The new part is mushroom shaped and only has the fins on the spring side. The new rounded mushroom side seats on the grommet face and has nothing protruding into the grommet which can get stuck over time.
