I recently bought my first boat it has a 1989 forcer 150. The engine had spit #5 cylinder ring. I put a new piston and rings honed the cylinder. the engine actually ran to my suprise. when i ran the water through the engine water was coming out the exhaust also leaked a little through the exhaust manifold gasket. im thinking there might be a gasket leaking but i don't know where the water flows through an outboard engine this is my first time working on one hope to hear from someone thanks.

Re: water problems

Congrats on owning your first boat! Yes, water should come out the exhaust and also the two ports farther up the lower unit. Water leaking out the motor (powerhead) itsself is a problem.

Remember never to run the motor without water. The impeller in the pump will fail in a matter of moments.
