water pump and t/stat question!

ok i change they impeller and i put lower unit on the water.<br />firts question i cant verify the t/stat and the lower unit there is enouth water if the 2 firts hole are in the water or supose to be moore hiyer<br />the engine is johnson 85hp 1969 85els69

Water needs to be above the waterpump. To be safe that is about 4 to 5 inches above the seam between the lower unit and the midsection of the motor.
