water pump how often should replace

i have a 80 merc 1988 thats was a lake boat how often should you replace pump , and is is hard i replaced my 135 johnson easy, is it harder, i will get manuel

They say every 2nd season, but my 1980 50HP has been there since 2000. My impeller is very tiny with short pointed vanes and I would say it would last longer than the big impellers that bend more..It's an easy job as long as the L/U comes off easy (not stuck by driveshaft)and this is most likely the benefit of the "2nd season" theory. Just make sure you line up the upper and lower shift shafts and position the reverse lock cam correctly prior to re-intalling.

thanks it pumps fine buy i am a little scared about it...breaking down overheating etc,,,,,,so i think i will replace it with in 2 weeks, because this is only my second trip with the boat and it runs well , as the other boats last 3 years gave me trouble all summer here,<br />hey wish i was downunder <br />bob in philly
