Well it never seems to end. DOES IT...
Just had the Marina paint bottom and change Impeller on my 23' Merc 5.0 I/O. While leaving the marina and bringing back to my canal, I missed the darn buoy and ran aground. Lucky if I was in 1.5 ft. did not bottom so some kids pulled we back into the channel. Boat seemed fine after that, no overheating and was running well.
2 days later my partner went to take it out fishing and the batteries were dead. He jumped it and it started. He opened the engine hatch and said it looked like 4th of july, water blowing everywhere from the water pump.
Said batteries wont charge. Just replaced alternater last year, uhhh
Now here is the question... Where I hit bottom (mud) do you thing all the shells and crap got sucked into the engine and blew the water pump??? I have not looked at it yet, but isnt their a screen or some type of design in the lower unit that prevents anything to pass thru to the impeller???
