Re: water pump kit par#s
You will want to get:
Water pump repair kit. Part# 3B2873221M $42.47
SPRING PIN REMOVAL TOOL Part# 345722270M $14.97
SPRING PIN (10 in a pack) Part# 9514030310M $0.50 each
These are available from any dealer, including me.
Disengage the shift coupler by driving out the lower roll pin.
Remove the 4 6mm bolts (10mm heads). Use a box wrench.
Drop the LU. Fasten it in a cushioned vise, shaft up.
Remove the 4 6mm (10mm head) wp housing bolts.
Pull up the housing, and remove the impeller, being careful not to drop the drive pin.
Carefully remove the ss cup from the upper housing. This may require patience and skill.
Install new cup, engaging the indexing tab in the housing.
Carefully remove the wear plate from the lower wp housing.
Clean all gasket mating surfaces, and install new gaskets as appropriate.
Install new wear plate, smooth side up.
Not everyone will need to remove the lower wp housing from the LU. Use your judgement.
Slide the new impeller onto the shaft. Be careful to engage the drive pin.
Slide the upper wp housing down to the impeller. Twist the shaft clockwise while lowering the housing onto the impeller.
You can lube the cup with a drop of dish soap if needed, but don't use grease or oil.
Reinstall the wp housing bolts.
Reattach the LU onto the exhaust housing. Use blue (removable) loc-tite on the threads.
You will need the proper "feel" to realign the splines of the driveshaft with the crankshaft, you may need to rotate one or the other a little.
Pay attention to how the shift coupler is coming together.
Pay attention to how the water tube is aligning with the grommet in the wp housing.
Re-engage the shift coupler, and push in the ss roll pin.
You will now know why outboard mechanics charge what they do.
The first time you do this, it will test your patience. Next time it will be easier.
