On a 1986 yamaha 115 ETLJ, What holds the insert cartrage 6E5-44322-41-00, to the water pump housing 6E5-44311-00-00? I changed out the impeller and now it seems like the insert cartrage is just spinning inside the water pump housing. I think that is the problem im having. After i changed out the impeller everything worked great for one outing. Now there is hardly any water pressure at all. I took it apart again and it seemed like the insert cartrage was loose inside the pump housing. I might not have pushed it all the way inside the housing as there is 2 tabs that keep it from spinning with the impeller but i dont think i would have missed that. Also there is some of what looks like an adhesive on the inside of the water pump housing where the insert cartrage goes. Almols looks like the cartrage was glued in there. My plan is to remove that stuff and reinstall and try it again. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Re: Water pump question.

If you have listed the cartridge number correctly that is the wrong one for your engine if you have the standard water pump. That cartridge is the correct one for the chrome water pump. Correct part number for the standard water pump is 6E5-44322-00-00.

Re: Water pump question.

ok sorry its the standard. I got the number off the yamaha page i just must have copied the wrong number. How can you tell the difference? It is chrome color. Anyway what im trying to find out is what holds that in place from spinning with the impeller? It looks like there was an adhesave on the outside of the cartrage but it could just be corrosion in the housing. I cant see really anyone using an adhesave in the housing to hold the cartrage in place. Ill get a picture and post it in a few min. I just got home from work and i got to take care of something.

bruce sometimes on here people ask questions because they would like advice. They dont need someone to be a smart *** and point out the most obvious things. I think that if you want to post something that you should maybee try helping someone out.

Re: Water pump question.

I am trying to give you good advice but you do not seem to apreciate it. The chrome waterpump is chrome and it is used where there is a lot of sand and silt. I did not see a picture of your water pump and that is why I asked if you had a chrome water pump because the part number you listed is for a chrome water pump. If you have the standard pump you need the parts for that pump. If you were such an expert at ordering Yamaha parts you would have ordered the correct part. I am trying to make you an expert.

Drew, Did you install the wrong impeller or did you install the correct impeller and post the wrong part number. I still do not know what you did. Depending on where you go boating, you may be better off with the chrome pump.
