Hey everyone, I own a 92 mariner 40hp outboard with some questionable problems! I started my motor up the other day and noticed that there was NO water coming out of the back side spout of the engine? I ran the motor for about 5 min with the cap off and my hand on the block to ensure it didn't get to hot, and still no water came out! What could be some solutions? THANKS!!!

Re: water pump?

Pee hole could be plugged. Water pump impeller always a good idea to replace.

Stick a small piece of stiff wire in the pee whole. I would also suspect the water pump as well.

Re: water pump?

On more than one occasion I have found the tell tale hole plugged by mud dauber (sp?) wasps. It's the first thing I check when water is absent at the telltale.

A length of weed trimmer line works well to clear the blockage.

Moody Blue, THANK YOU! I used a peace of pipe cleaner and it worked like a charm. I was a little unsure at first, then all of a sudden water started poring out! You saved the day, and my pocket book!!

Remember the impeller is not a replace as you need to part it is a maintenance item. I generally tell my customers they need to replace the impeller every 2 years.
