Water Sprays up back of Transom at speed

This is my first post to the forums, sorry if it's in the wrong place. I am also new to boating (sort of) I got a 14 aluminum with 9.5 hp last year but THIS year! I found an 82 15' fiberglass bass boat with a pad hull and 100 hp Evinrude for 900 bucks, I couldn't pass that up. So, the boat runs great, handles great, but... at about 35 and faster there is water spraying up the back of the transom, not that pretty rooster tail thing, but splashing all over the motor up the side of the cowling. It's NOT on the driver side where the speedo and transucer are, it's spraying up the other side. I have looked at the boat out of the water and there isn't anything on that side, under or on the transom. There is no water inside the cowling and it dosen't seem to affect the performance ( It will still go 50+) but I am worried that the engine may be set too low or water is getting where it shouldn't? It dosen't seem to do it up to about 25 or so (according to the notoriously unreliable pitot tube)
