Water Temp Gauge Question?

I just bought several boat items from my local boat shop,whe I got home and begain to looka t mt item I noticec that the temp gauge was already showing 130 degrees on the gauge,did I buy a defected gauge?

Sounds like it. Every gauge I've ever bought comes out of the package reading "0" or the lowest number.

Still in the box have not installed it yet.

I think i would power it up and see what happens.
Mine came showing zero.
But ya never know, maybe it just needs ajump to reset it

What does the gauge indicate if you power it up?

The needle should jump to "0" when you apply power to it. Assuming your engine is cold.
