wave washer

I have a 1955 RD17 25hp that is missing a wave washer under the ignition plate. The engine is set up with remote controls. Is it critical to replace the wave washer and where can one be found? thanks for the help.

It is not supposed to have a wave washer. That is only used on motors where the speed is controlled by a horizontal sliding lever, such as a 3hp. Putting one on a 25 would make it way too tight to operate with remote controls. Besides, the wave washer is used with a different armature plate and retainer ring.

thanks mine did not have one and the service manuel that I have is not very detailed as to which motors have and have not. thanks again for your help.
