Weather or not to go.

The NOAA marine weather forecasting here really sucks. People plan there fishing trips around them and then there wrong. The wind is the biggest problem along with wave height. With all the buoys, satellites, radars etc. you would think they could be at least close half the time. The albacore are less than 20mi. off shore here now and that is pretty rare. I?ve been waiting for a window to slip out there in my 13.5 Boston Whaler ( accompanied of coarse ). The last few days have been incredible. Dead flat out 60mi., which it wasn?t supposed to be. So yesterday was the big day. I checked all the forecasts and they said go. Needless to say half way out the wind and waves came up and we had to abort the trip. I?m sick! Maybe I should have gone to Craigslist to rant.

tommays; You are right, if I want the wind to blow, just load up the boat, if I don't want it to blow, just get out the slope glider.

What I love is when they say 50% chance of rain. Well, Gee, that sure helped a lot.

Here in British Columbia for a small fee we can call Enviroment Canada and consult with a meterologist for a more detailed weather forecast. Is such a service available in California?

Around here the geography causes a lot of strange wind patterns and it can go from rough to calm in a matter of minutes depending on the wind direction and the tidal flow.

I've come out of the harbor and run into a solid 2-3ft chop and then call my buddy sitting 7-8 miles east of me and he wants to know what I'm smoking cause it's dead come over there.

Checking the bouy before going out the door gives you an idea of the general condtions in the area but it's not until you get there that you'll know for sure.

Simple to just look at the Weather channel, sound off, then the overview of the cloud/pressure systems (satellite). Look at that massive low pressure over us here in the Pacific Northwest. Lows spin counter clockwise. Last I looked (fact have the TWC on now), its an onshore wind around your parts. There (NOAA) website has the same satellite pix..

google "state forecast discussion"... If you can find it, it's the meteorologists talking amongst themselves about what forecast they will put out for the general public and why. .It's very enlightening.. Weather forecasting never has been and never will be an exact science.

Ooooo Eeeee. Slipped out yesterday even though the wind was supposed to be 10K+. Flat as a putting green. 18 albacore 10 to 26 lbs. 16.5 mi. to 20 mi. out. Fantastic day but I can't lie. Went in a 24' Pro Line.
