well, this problem is at the bottom of the list now.

The gears in the lower part of the outdrive blew up and went through the shell. yyaaayyyy. I had seen the crack in the lower part of the case, but I didn't know there was supposed to be seperate gear oil in there. I know know though!! No wonder the engine was acting like it was locking up on me.

Now to find me an alpha one gen 2 lower unit with a 1.84 or 1.81.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. I guess since there was a crack in it, the whole thing was going to need replacing anyway. The housing may have been fixable (welding)???? But I suppose there were some rust issues that would mandate new parts. Best of luck to ya!

Jeff

Well back a few years ago in a family owned business you might find your sockets missing if you installed a autolite in a gm product...:D

Well the upper was locked up too. So I ordered an (I think people have refered to them as this) SEI. I think it said SE116. My gimbal bearing is toast to, so I got the transom rebuild kit, the anode kit and install kit to go along with the outdrive. I can't believe how easy it was to remove the outdrive!
