I picked up three used small Honda engines today, for free.

One runs but burns oil. The other two are unknown.

Two are GX340's, 11 HP OHV commercial engines.

The other is (I think) a GX610, 18or20 HP V-Twin OHV commercial engine.

I don't know how long they've been sitting.

I want to see if these work, but before I do something to ruin them, I'm asking for guidance...

What should I do prior to trying to start them?

Thank you.

Pull the plugs, check for spark, turn over a bit w/o the plug. Check the age of the gas and oil, maybe anticipate a good carb cleaning.

Good advise from Bob,before I pulled them over I would put some trannie oil [automatic]in the cylinders through plug hole and let seat for a while then pull them over also go here and get at least the owners manual, youall need the serial # on the top you see manuals go there to after you get owners manual
http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/own_own.htm

You need to put them back on the shelf till next winter, too warm to work on them now, you need to be fishing now. Fill the cyllinders with marvell mystry oil befour putting them on the shelf.
